Our mother tongue is directly linked to the future of our culture, heritage, and traditions. I studied in Gujarati medium from Class 1 onwards at Gokalibai School in Vile Parle West, Mumbai. I started learning English only from Class 9 as one of the subjects. During and after college, I tried my hands at different businesses — from being a dealer in cold drinks, to manufacturing soaps, and trading in stocks. Then, in 1995, I met Dhirubhai Ambani and have been working at Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) since then. I got elected as Rajya Sabha MP from Jharkhand in 2008, and was re-elected from there in 2014.I got elected for my third term from Andhra Pradesh in June 2020. I have achieved a lot in my life on various fronts, whether it be the corporate sector at RIL, in politics as RS MP, in cricket as VP of GCA, in religious and philanthropic activities, or as a wildlife enthusiast. But I have never felt handicapped in any way for having done my schooling in my mother tongue.
